W.R. – Misterije organizma

Banned in 1971 by morally outraged functionaries of the Yugoslav bureaucracy, W. R. is an impressive example of the inseparable interplay of political and sexual liberation, ‘a pitch-black comedy, a political spectacle, a fantasy about fascism and communism on the human body - about the political life of the genitals - and an indictment of the pornographic nature of all forms of violence and domination.’ Inspired by the life and ideas of the Marxist psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich, who saw the sexual revolution as a basic condition for true socialism, Makavejev unfolds a provocative and paradoxical attack on authority - and on all too entrenched viewing habits. A cheeky film in which nothing is impossible.
