Vous ne désirez que moi (I Want to Talk About Duras)

As in Les bureaux de Dieu, Claire Simon takes real dialogues as the basis for her screenplay, in this case a long unpublished interview conducted in 1982 by journalist Michèle Manceaux with Yann Andréa, the decades-younger partner of writer and director Marguerite Duras. A precise document of an incredible love story that begins with Andréa discovering Duras‘ literature as a student and devoting himself to her from then on, later becoming her lover despite his homosexuality and living with her from 1980 until Duras’ death in 1996. Simon places the staging of the interview at the centre, depicting a passionate relationship with reversed roles in which art and life merge. Duras is only present in Andréa's narrative and in archive footage. (Andrea Pollach)
