VIRUS / ZOMBI HOLOCAUST
Please leave your taste buds at the door before entering the cinema: this time we're poaching in the Italian genre jungle, where boundaries are crossed without regard for the consequences. Bruno Mattei serves up a lively chase through the flora and fauna of New Guinea as the first course, where the US government is playing fast and loose with deadly viruses under the guise of science. A special unit is sent in to put an end to it – but it's not just Franco Garofalo's merciless overacting (see photo) that soon raises the question of who is actually more dangerous. Girolami takes a more leisurely (but no less stylish) approach in his aptly named contribution, leading a group of researchers to a remote Pacific island where DR. BUTCHER, M.D. (as the English title suggests) experiments on the inhabitants, just like Dr. Moreau did in the past. Bon appétit!
