In these harrowing times of ongoing, spiraling, raging conflict (nb: according to reliable online sources, the last year without a significant war was 480!), is there actually room to quietly suggest that maybe there are alternative ways of dealing with our problems? Our selection of shorts aims to put this question in its proper historical context. It is dedicated to the peaceful aims and resolutions of the post–World War I Locarno conferences and treaties, whose centenary we respectfully mark. (ny)
