Vienna Shorts: Danube So Blue

“The Blue Danube” by Johann Strauss II is one of the most famous pieces of music in the world and is deeply rooted in film history. As part of this year’s special competition, Danube So Blue, contemporary cinematic interpretations of the “Danube Waltz” have emerged—in documentary, animated, or artistically experimental form. The nine finalists take us, among other things, to a dystopian tech future in Vienna, onto a paddle trip down the Danube, and to a workout session on the Albanian coast—all spinning gently in three-four time. At the premiere, the main prize worth €6,000 will be awarded. (mb)
