Viagem ao Princípio do Mundo
A film shoot takes French actor Afonso to Portugal, the country of his father, where he wants to visit one of his aunts who is still alive in a village. He is accompanied by Manoel, the director of the film, and two actors who translate for him. On the way, memories of his childhood and youth are awakened - but the aunt is not particularly enthusiastic about her nephew, about whom she had no idea and with whom she cannot converse ... At the time of filming, Mastroianni already knew that he did not have long to live - his friend Manoel de Oliveira gives him an even more dignified farewell with this laconic and witty road movie: ‘A long life is a gift from God, but you pay a high price for it.’ (Florian Widegger)
