In the 1970s, as women around the world rose up against discrimination, oppression, and traditional gender roles, many artists joined the fight. Through radical performances, photography, and video art, they challenged patriarchal power structures. For a long time, these artists were dismissed and ridiculed by the male-dominated art world, forcing them to summon immense strength, perseverance, and ingenuity to push their themes forward.

Susanne Riegler’s documentary is not just a film about an art movement that was ignored for decades; it is also a historical record, giving voice to female artists as cultural and political activists within the women’s movement.

A key factor in the recognition of 1970s feminist art on the international market was the collecting work of Gabriele Schor, founding director of the SAMMLUNG VERBUND. In the film, Schor shares the story of how she coined the term *Feminist Avant-Garde*—a concept that has since become an essential part of art history.
