Verkaufte Heimat (Teil 1: Brennende Lieb’)
1938: South Tyrol has been part of Italy for 20 years now, and things seem to have been more or less quiet for a long time, until suddenly things start to happen. First, German names are Italianised: the Rabensteiners become the Pietracorvos, for example. As part of the resettlement agreement between Hitler and Mussolini, they have to decide: stay or leave. It is a decision that divides the population. Through the stories of three families, Karin Brandauer recounts those difficult years leading up to 1945. She tells of those who seek their fortune far away and die of broken hearts and disappointed expectations, and of those who remain in their homeland and struggle with oppression and discrimination. A work of the century!
