Verkaufte Heimat 2: Leb Wohl, du mein Südtirol
Edgar Allan Poe, the central figure of Gothic Romanticism, remains one of the most influential authors to this day. 1938: South Tyrol has been part of Italy for 20 years now, and things seem to have been more or less quiet for a long time, until suddenly things start to happen. First, German names are Italianised: the Rabensteins become the Pietracorvos, for example. Under the resettlement agreement between Hitler and Mussolini, they have to decide: stay or leave. A decision that divides the population. Using three families as examples, Karin Brandauer tells the story of those difficult years leading up to 1945. Of those who seek their fortune far away and die of broken hearts and disappointed expectations, and of those who remain in their homeland and have to struggle with oppression and discrimination. A work of the century!
