Vainilla
Eight-year-old Roberta witnesses how her family—seven strong-willed women—cope with the looming foreclosure of their home.
In late 1980s Mexico, Roberta receives a letter addressed to her aunt demanding repayment of the debt on their rented house, or else they will face eviction. The news throws the multi-generational household into turmoil.
With her steady and gentle gaze, Roberta observes how each of the women responds, capturing the trials, triumphs, and small joys of her family with her camera. As the repayment deadline draws closer and the adults search for ways to earn extra income, Roberta makes innocent attempts of her own to help avert the disaster.
VAINILLA begins as an exploration of womanhood and soon evolves into a story that is both deeply personal and universal.
