The turbo-capitalist interests of limitless growth and short-term profit are increasingly permeating the meeting and cultural space of the football pitch. In OUR FOOTBALL, Manuela and Sebastian, two rival Viennese football fans, explore this threat to the world's favourite pastime. In 70 minutes, they document the rapid commercialisation of football in recent decades, with the negative climax of the 2022 World Cup in the autocratic desert state of Qatar.
In interviews with players and club officials from their respective clubs, with fans from Salzburg and Hanover, a journalist from the ‘Football Leaks’ investigations and the managing director of Amnesty International Austria, the protagonists embark on a search for traces of these strange excesses. The dramaturgical stylistic device of a staged amateur game, commented on by THE Austrian sports legend Adi Niederkorn, guides the viewer light-footedly through the various chapters. The two city rivals Manuela and Sebastian, and many more football fans worldwide, are united by a common goal: ‘Football belongs to its fans from all walks of life, and we're taking it back!’
The film will be followed by an audience discussion with the director.
