Und die Bäume schweigen
After the tragic death of her mother at the Polish-Belarusian border, 16-year-old Kurdish girl Runa must grow up quickly and take care of her four younger brothers and her depressed, helpless father. During their time in the refugee camp, the family struggles with their traumatic past, an uncertain future, and the threat of deportation. Runa's refuge from daily worries is her sketchbook, which gradually fills with increasingly unsettling images. The film is a partially animated story about coming of age in the shadow of the global refugee crisis.
