Umberto Eco – Eine Bibliothek der Welt
Umberto Eco's private library opens a window onto a magical cosmos - meter-high shelves filled with over 30,000 contemporary and 1,500 antique and rare books. After Eco's death, his family granted director Davide Ferrario, who had previously worked with Eco at the Art Biennale, exclusive access to this literary treasure. Originally, the film was only intended to document the library before it was handed over to the Italian state and the associated move. But it developed into much more.
The film delves into the inspiring world of thought of the renowned philosopher and writer and his companions. The result is not only a fascinating portrait of Umberto Eco's memory, but also a deep insight into the world's collective memory. This documentary uniquely interweaves the history of the library with Eco's philosophical reflections, creating an impressive testimony to the power of literature, memory and the heritage of humanity.
