Baroness Rita cheats on her husband with the handsome shepherd Sepp of all people and hires him for a mountain tour for three. She ensnares him on the rock faces of the Rax until the rope slips out of his hands and the baron falls into the depths. Although Sepp is now sent to prison, he consoles himself with the hope of happiness with his lover. If she doesn't throw a spanner in the works ... Rarely before have the contrasts between tourists seeking relaxation and pleasure and the locals, who provide them with their labour and hospitality, been staged more dramatically than in this feature film, which draws on the classic topoi of the Heimatroman: the separation between nature "above" and alienation "below".
