Death is waiting somewhere. And life. UGLY is the story of the Austrian Hanna and the Ukrainian Jura. The film depicts the loss of their love and the decline of their families. It is a film about the apparent impossibility of happiness, a film about relationships, how they fail, freeze or drown in everyday life. Ultimately, it is a film about people with different mentalities who are exposed to a similar fate - which either breaks them or ultimately makes them stronger. A radical and uncompromising directorial debut that you have to get involved with, but then you are rewarded all the more with beauty. (red)
