Treasure – Familie ist ein fremdes Land
Shortly after the fall of the Iron Curtain, New York music journalist Ruth Rothwax, accompanied by her father Edek, travels to Poland to get to the bottom of her Jewish family's legacy.
For Edek, a Holocaust survivor, it is the first journey back to the places of his childhood. While Ruth is determined to better understand her parents' traumas, the ever-amused Edek wants to let bygones be bygones. So he sabotages Ruth's plans and causes more than one unintentionally funny situation. During this eventful week, the two uncover old family secrets. Love and deep understanding grow out of their fragile relationship.
German filmmaker and screenwriter Julia von Heinz (HANNAS REISE, UND MORGEN DIE GANZE WELT) presents her most ambitious work to date with the film adaptation of the key novel ‘Too Many Men’ by bestselling author Lily Brett. Lena Dunham, who made a name for herself with the cult series ‘Girls’, and the celebrated, exceptional British artist Stephen Fry (‘The Dropout’, WILDE) shine in the leading roles. In the course of their journey, the charismatic father-daughter duo finally find their way back to each other by confronting their family's harrowing past. Julia von Heinz directs this moving family story with sensitivity and warm humour.
