Year1971

Duration105min.

The whole world is on the move! Not only the very first moon landing is imminent, but also the big car show in Amsterdam. The Paris-based company Altra is also sending a delegation to the Netherlands - along with its latest model, an ultra-compact camper van. Along for the ride are the sales manager, the new PR manager Maria, the driver Marcel - and Mr. Hulot, an employee of the company.

The road trip also starts quite according to plan - but we're in a Jacques Tati movie, so things change quickly. After only a few kilometers, the transport vehicle breaks down, and shortly afterwards the tank is empty - the starting point for one of the most legendary film scenes from TRAFIC, when Mr. Hulot races another driver across a field, the gas can firmly in his hand. Then, of course, there are traffic jams, the next breakdown, minor and major accidents, problems with the police ... and when the camper van and its crew finally arrive in Amsterdam, the Grand Finale of disasters awaits: A yawning void in the exhibition center.

Two VW Beetles, a Citroën DS, a Peugeot 504, a Renault R4 and a bright yellow Siata Spring, with a few other classic cars in a colorful pile-up: the vintage car lover's heart cries, but there is still laughter, first and foremost. The basis for the script of TRAFIC were strange, funny and absurd incidents in road traffic, the actual plot was written around it.
