This is Ballroom

Against the backdrop of Rio de Janeiro’s underground ballroom culture, This Is Ballroom follows those drawn to their local ballroom scenes, where community is created, identity's are found, and chosen families are developed. Directed by queer artists Juru and Vitã, the film takes the viewer from electrifying balls in abandoned warehouses to intimate spaces where performers prepare, all the while revealing the complex dynamics of race, gender, and resilience within this vibrant world. Through kinetic dance scenes and candid interviews, This Is Ballroom captures a trans-led cast’s journey of self-expression and survival, celebrating an emerging generation redefining ballroom culture.

Following the screening there will be a panel discussion (in English) featuring Vitã (director), Plenvm Moonlight Ninja (Vienna Ballroom scene), und Prince Juany Moonlight (Vienna Ballroom scene).
