The Way We Talk

Sophie grew up with a mother who would do anything to integrate her deaf daughter into the hearing world—and who firmly opposes the use of sign language. But when Sophie gets involved in a cochlear implant campaign, she comes into contact for the first time with deaf people for whom sign language is second nature—and a human right. Sophie is both unsettled and fascinated. She begins to engage with sign language and discovers its beauty for herself. Wolf, her sign language teacher, is proud to be deaf and works hard to finally open his own diving school. An explosive mix—in the midst of which is also the deaf designer Alan, Wolf’s best friend and someone who has long harbored feelings for Sophie. A showcase for actors, led by a stellar performance from Chung Suet-ying, who deservedly won Best Actress at the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival.
