The Terminator
Part of the special series NACHTBLENDE
Nachtblende: THROWBACK 1984
‘Still one of the most captivating, visually engaging, menacing and stylish sci-fi movies of all time.’ MiloBauer on Letterboxd
You've been targeted for termination... by the Terminator! James Cameron created one of the most iconic sci-fi characters in film history with his second film. Arnold Schwarzenegger slipped into the role of the (here evil) cyborg with an Austrian accent and became a worldwide mega action star. The still insanely stylish film, which is considerably more horror than perhaps the best sequel in history, TERMINATOR 2, oscillates between technology fetish (machines need love too) and pessimism about progress.
Blue lightning and newspapers carried by the sudden wind in some back alley: two people from the future land in 1984 Los Angeles, except that one of them is not human after all, but a killer cyborg with a very specific goal: the extermination of Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), whose not-yet-born son will declare war on the machines in the future. Or not after all?
