The Sugarland Express

Clovis Poplin (William Atherton) has only four months left until he can walk out of the Texas state prison and into freedom. Four months that his wife Lou Jean (Goldie Hawn) cannot wait, as they need to rescue their child from the custody of the foster parents as soon as possible. The fact that the foster family in Sugarland may provide a good parental alternative is of no concern to the determined mother. Thus, the fugitives commandeer a police car, complete with the officer inside, and head south.

During their law-breaking journey, they not only collect numerous trading stamps as a start-up aid for their family’s future but also gain the sympathies of the public, the hostage, and even most of the pursuing law enforcement officers. Approaching the showdown near the Mexican border, filmed in stunning widescreen shots, the outlaw duo hopes for a joyful reunion with their child, even though the chance of success dwindles with each passing mile.
