The Strategy of the Snail (La estrategia del caracol)
An old tenement building on the outskirts of Bogotá, Colombia. The owner wants to evict the tenants, but the “Casa Uribe” is home to a colorful group of misfits: Jacinto, an elderly anarchist; Romero, a disbarred lawyer who nonetheless knows every legal trick in the book; a priest seeking earthly pleasures; Gabriel, who presents himself as Gabriela; and an old woman who lives with a supposedly dead man — until a miracle occurs. They may stand no chance against ruthless real estate developers, but they do have a brilliant plan to make the most of the time before the threatened eviction — using the “strategy of the snail.”
With quirky humor, anarchic charm, and political commitment, director Sergio Cabrera casts a loving gaze on the residents of Casa Uribe. The result is a poetic story and a delightful comedy about human dignity — a sympathetic vision of the triumph of solidarity and community spirit.
