The Rule of Jenny Pen
Former judge Mortensen is confined to a wheelchair after suffering a stroke and is suddenly confronted with having to spend the rest of his life in a substandard retirement home, dependent on the help of others. As if that wasn't bad enough, his roommate Dave lives out his psychopathic traits at night, sneaking through the corridors and forcing the often bedridden victims to obey all the commands of his plastic doll Jenny Pen. Director James Ashcroft throws acting legends Geoffrey Rush and John Lithgow into the ring and pits them against each other in an initially droll, later bitterly evil and finally night-black scenario. Essentially a psychological thriller about power trips and oppression, THE RULE OF JENNY PEN, which Stephen King named one of the best films of the year in 2024, also thrives on the fearlessness of its lead actors: if John Lithgow's grotesque dance moves on TikTok don't go viral, humanity is doomed.
