The Royal Tenenbaums
The Tenenbaums' children were once blessed with luck and talent. Chas (Ben Stiller) was a business genius, Richie (Luke Wilson) an idolised tennis prodigy and adopted daughter Margot (Gwyneth Paltrow) wrote award-winning screenplays. But when her parents Royal (Gene Hackman) and Etheline (Anjelica Huston) divorced, their world collapsed.
Now, after years of silence, Royal returns to his family. He has terminal cancer, he claims - he says he only has six weeks to live. Is this true or just a ploy to sneak back into the family circle? More importantly, will his illness unite the family and heal old wounds, or will long-buried conflicts resurface?
Wes Anderson directed his dysfunctional Tenenbaum family in a fictional version of Manhattan in his usual colourful style and was nominated for an Oscar for best screenplay together with co-writer Owen Wilson. Gene Hackman won a Golden Globe Award for his role.
