The Ring Two
Six months after the events of The Ring, journalist Rachel (Naomi Watts) has gone into hiding with her young son Aidan in a small coastal town. But soon a new series of deaths among teenagers begins: the cursed video tape that kills within a week of being viewed has appeared again. And the vengeful ghost whose curse it contains now seems to be targeting Aidan. After the respectable success of the Hollywood remake of Nakata Hideo's J-horror hit The Ring (1998), he was brought to the dream factory to make a sequel in a similar style. The eerie mother-son relationship serves as the basis for a fusion of Western and Eastern symbols in exaggerated horror scenarios between watery death and nightmare cascades. Sissy Spacek provides the motto for the madhouse guest appearance: ‘The dead don't dream, and the dead never sleep’. (C.H.)
