The Pleasure Garden

The influence that Alma Reville had on the work of her famous husband and "Master of Suspense" is now recognised. After all, when they met, she already had much more experience than he did - which is particularly exciting in relation to her early work, in which she also played an explicit part. THE PLEASURE GARDEN, Hitchcock's first completed feature film, shot in Munich and Italy, already contains essential trademarks that would define his later works: Sex, guilt and atonement. The title refers to the entertainment business, where a revue dancer helps a younger colleague to make a career leap, but is surprised by her cunning in the process. A quadrangle story in which there is a crackle at the beginning, then a crisis and finally even deaths.
