The Peasants

The animated film drama by DK and Hugh Welchman is based on the novel "The Peasants" by Polish Nobel Prize winner Władysław Stanisław Reymont. The film is set at the end of the 19th century and tells the story of the peasant girl Jagna, who is forced to marry a much older but wealthy farmer, although she actually loves his son. The film was made using the same elaborate animation technique, a mixture of animation and handmade oil paintings, as "Loving Vincent" and was submitted by Poland as an entry for the 2024 Academy Awards for Best International Film.
