The Natural History of Destruction
Loznitsa turns his attention to the Allied bombings of German cities during the Second World War. The archival material he draws upon operates on two levels: the machinery engineered for maximum efficiency, and the human dimension left behind in the ruins. He does not ask who wins or loses, nor what guilt or morality might mean. The film is not concerned with whether destruction can be justified, but with what remains in the image once all explanations fall silent.
