KADIB ABYAD: The Mother of All Lies

Asmae El Moudir gathers her grandmother, parents and former neighbours to build a detailed model of her former neighbourhood in Casablanca. Before she was born, this street was the site of a massacre when the police and military shot hundreds of people during the so-called bread riots in 1981. A trauma that runs deep, was kept secret for a long time and of which there are hardly any pictures.
There are also no pictures of Asmae's childhood. Instead, her mother shows her photos of others. A cautious search for clues and an approach to her own family history and collective memory.
