The Man Who Fell To Earth
"Look up here, I'm in heaven,
I've got scars that can't be seen." David Bowie
Nicolas Roeg's sci-fi classic, in which David Bowie himself plays the alien humanoid Newton – in images that have since achieved iconic status.
In THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH, Newton comes to Earth and is tasked with finding water for his dying planet. But the decadent lifestyle he encounters on Earth soon exerts a stronger attraction than his home planet. Post-Ziggy Stardust icon Bowie was the ideal cast in a parable about an increasingly alienated human society, “he didn't play the alien, he was it” (Falter).
