THE LAST WALTZ / THE BAND
Thanksgiving, 1976: After years of tireless music-making and touring, the Canadian-American band The Band give their farewell concert and invite a who's who of the hottest blues, folk and rock musicians to join them on stage at Winterland in San Francisco, which is sold out to the last of its 5,000 seats. An evening that was to make history - and was brilliantly captured by Martin Scorsese and his seven cameramen. The result is a rousing concert experience in which, apart from short interview sequences, over which, however, the foreboding of an end always hovers, you can fully immerse yourself in the enthusiastic artists and their music for two hours and enjoy: ‘The finest record of a rock concert ever put on film!’ (Florian Widegger)
