Das letzte Geschenk (El último traje)
Eighty-eight-year-old Abraham is a patriarch and an old stubborn man. When his family decides to place him in a nursing home, he refuses to accept his fate. Instead, he boards the next plane to Madrid on a journey to visit a childhood friend in Poland who once saved his life. Along the way, he encounters a series of colorful characters: Leo, a penniless musician; María, a strong-willed hotel owner; and Gosia, a kind-hearted Polish nurse.
In classic storytelling tradition, Argentine director Pablo Solarz, the son of Jewish immigrants, takes us on a journey into the past. The road movie skillfully balances lighthearted moments with deeply moving scenes and thrives on its lovingly drawn characters. Star actor Miguel Ángel Solá shines as the headstrong Abraham, while Ángela Molina, grande dame of Spanish cinema, plays the eccentric hotel owner as if she had stepped straight out of a Pedro Almodóvar film.
“A charming film about the many ways of coming to terms with history.” (epd-Film)
