Large corporations repeatedly intervene in traditional farming for the sake of profit. ‘The Last Seed’ focuses on the threat to African agriculture posed by the battle for seeds.
The film highlights the determined efforts of farmers in South Africa, Tanzania and Senegal to oppose the corporations and retain control over their local seeds. Because only this makes their agriculture sustainable and, above all, adaptable.
The documentary addresses the challenges associated with seeds that are controlled by corporations and emphasises the essential importance of freely available seeds for the fundamental right to food.
