The Juniper Tree
One of the lesser-known, yet cruelest fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm - embedded in the mystical atmosphere of the Icelandic landscape and carried by Björk's magical first cinema role: a dreamlike film poem whose eerie silence conjures up the dark...
After their mother is stoned and burned as a witch, sisters Katla and Margit are on the run. In the middle of Iceland's barren volcanic landscape, they find shelter with the widower Jóhann and his son Jónas. While Katla binds Jóhann to her with an enchantment, Jónas and Margit become friends in their shared grief over the loss of their mothers. But their newly established security is shaken when Jónas becomes aware of the supernatural that surrounds the two sisters.
