Elena is new at her school. As a “Hāfu,” the daughter of two cultures, she finds herself unable to fit into either community and is quickly marginalized by her classmates. What begins as a slight irritation develops into a constant feeling of alienation. In her everyday life, she seeks refuge in music and the glowing screen of her smartphone, but even there she finds no real comfort. The harder she tries to remain invisible, the more clearly an actual invisible threat seems to loom around her. Elena is the only person who can hear the muffled footsteps of this mysterious creature. But only as long as her cell phone is charged and her headphones are plugged in. An oppressive atmosphere builds up from everyday moments, in which only small gestures and glances suddenly unfold an eerie power. The result is a coming-of-age drama that gradually turns into a horror scenario. Where does reality end and where does the danger begin that only Elena seems to see?
