The Hill Where Lionesses Roar

A whiff of THELMA & LOUISE wafts through the streets of a village in Kosovo: in her feature film debut, French-Kosovan actress and filmmaker Luàna Bajrami (PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG WOMAN IN FLAMES) makes post-socialist realities of life palpable in sun-drenched landscapes and abandoned building complexes. The three titular lionesses Qe, Jeta and Li have been hoping for admission to university for the second summer in a row. They are longing for a future away from the familiar, inert, melancholy paths they are surrounded by and want to take control of their own lives. But they first have to fight for the financial privileges they need to do so - illegally if necessary, and in competition with the male gang.
