The Golden Thread

Near Kolkata, India there are still jute mills that operate practically unchanged since the industrial revolution. Laboriously the workers keep the old machines running, while change is already looming on the horizon. New equipment needs less personnel and some factories have already closed their gates for the last time. The locals are confronted with an uncertain future. The film combines picturesque recordings with the fate of those who live in the rhythm of the Victorian machines.
