Journalist Veronica Quaife (Geena Davis) accompanies the reclusive scientist Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum) as he completes his groundbreaking invention: a machine that can be used to transport matter from A to B via teleportation. Initial attempts to transport living beings fail, with only a bloody mass arriving at the other end. But a good dose of infatuation and a glass or two too many soon prompt the driven scientist to climb into the machine himself. But not alone...
