The Dead Don’t Hurt
America, 1860: Shortly before the start of the Civil War, the emancipated French-Canadian Vivienne Le Coudy (Vicky Krieps) and the Danish immigrant Holger Olsen (Viggo Mortensen) fall in love. They want to build a life together in a small town in Nevada. But when war breaks out, Holger decides to volunteer. Vivienne is now left to fend for herself in the corrupt town. In addition to the power games of mayor Rudolph Schiller (Danny Huston), she has to defend herself against the intrusive advances of rancher Weston Jeffries (Solly McLeod). When Holger returns from the front, he and Vivienne are no longer the same. They have to get to know each other again in order to find their way back to each other.
