The Burdened – Al Murhaqoon

Isra’a lives with her husband Ahmed and their three children in the old port city of Aden in southern Yemen. The civil war shapes their everyday lives. Ahmed used to work in television, but after he stopped getting paid, he now earns his living as a driver. When Isra'a unexpectedly becomes pregnant, both of them know that they cannot afford a fourth child. Together they decide to have an abortion. Director Amr Gamal fictionalizes a real story from his circle of friends. The film provides insights into a country that is largely unknown beyond its borders.
