Brothers Jake and Elwood love rhythm'n'blues and the orphanage where they grew up. It is now to be closed down due to tax debts. Bankrupt and with one foot in jail, the two reactivate their old band in order to raise the necessary change within eleven days - and soon have the Illinois state police, a neo-Nazi leader and a vengeful ex breathing down their necks ... The film spends its considerable budget of 33 million dollars on breakneck action scenes - including a furious car chase that leads to a veritable orgy of destruction. However, this witty anarchic slapstick film has achieved cult status today primarily because numerous blues and soul icons make unforgettable mini-appearances.
