The Blue Veiled
Nobar is a self-confident young woman, she knows what she wants and fights for her goals with determination, but her family is poor and she is the only one who can support herself. And jobs in the country are few and far between. So she fights for a place in the company of Rasul, who has built up a nice business with tomato plantations and an attached factory for processing the fruit. He lost his beloved wife some time ago, and of his three daughters he is only really fond of the youngest, but she makes herself scarce. So he spends lonely and often sad days on his estate. When Nobar suddenly appears in his life, he falls head over heels in love with her - and she with him. However, age, class and religious and moral differences seem to make their relationship impossible. When Rasul's daughters get wind of the relationship, the situation comes to a dramatic head. Rakhshan Banietemad is a pioneer of new cinema in Iran, and we are delighted to be able to present the Austrian premiere of the restored version of this masterpiece, with which the director also achieved international success in the mid-1990s.
