Chuck Russell's remake of the 50s B-movie spends half of its relatively large budget on the slimy, bloody effects for which it is rightly considered iconic today and which culminate in a mass panic scene in the cinema. It is sad that the film did not even recoup the money for these effects at the box office. But it says nothing about the qualities of the film. As is so often the case, the flow of time corrected the errors of timing, because THE BLOB is rightly regarded today as one of the most classic representatives of 80s horror cinema.

When strangely prepared human corpses are found in a small US town, it doesn't take long for the recently turned adult permanent delinquent Brian (Kevin Dillon) to come under suspicion. But soon the slimy, man-eating (or rather man-sucking) and rapidly growing creature, which landed on earth via a meteorite impact, can no longer be overlooked by anyone...
