The Big Heat
Police officer Dave Bannion is assigned to investigate the suicide of a colleague. He had previously been involved in the machinations of a local mafia figure. But shortly after Bannion starts work, he is told off by his superiors - he has touched too ‘hot an iron’. However, Bannion is not so easily satisfied and continues his investigation - not without incurring the deadly wrath of the underworld ... In all its ice-cold uncompromisingness, THE BIG HEAT is one of Lang's most powerful works. It shows people who are pushed even deeper into their individual abysses in a society ‘contaminated by violence from the ground up’ (Frieda Grafe). A journey into the heart of darkness, if you will.
