THE AGRESSIVES

FromDaniel Peddle

Year2005

Duration75min.

LanguageEnglish

For five years, Daniel Peddle accompanied six proletarian Butches? Afab people? who describe themselves as “aggressive” and go beyond conventional definitions. Neither drag kings nor trans, but in any case clearly influenced by hip-hop culture, they negotiate and live masculinity in their own way. The film shows the aggressives in their everyday lives, which are also marked by racism, classism, misogyny and homophobia, it explores their dreams, secrets and fears, and it follows them to lesbian drag balls - counterparts to the ballrooms and voguing competitions of the legendary black houses - with categories such as “butch first time in dress” or “construction worker vs. painter”. A must!
