TEKUANES – GUARDIANES XINKA DEL AGUA

In 2010, Xinka communities, environmental groups and the local diocese establish a ‘community laboratory’ to train young scientists in water monitoring. The aim is to find the cause of the drying up of local water sources near a mining project. The resulting environmental organisation becomes the cornerstone of the Xinka resistance against extractivism and corruption. The Xinka people, declared dead for the third time in their history, use science and spirituality to tirelessly defend their land, resources, cosmology and identity.
