Tchaikovsky’s Wife

Russia in the 19th century: The aristocrat Antonina Milyukova could have anything she wants. But the beautiful and intelligent woman is obsessed solely with marrying the famous composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky. Tchaikovsky surprisingly agrees to the liaison, primarily to counteract the persistent rumours about his homosexuality. However, he soon blames Antonina for his own misfortune and shows her his contempt. As he feels no love, Tchaikovsky brutally tries to get rid of his wife.
With an exceptionally elegant narrative flow and impressive camera shots, director Kirill Serebrennikov paints a harrowing portrait of a self-destructive love affair.
