Sweet Thing

Shades of gray are bathed in pale colors when young Billie (Lana Rockwell) seeks refuge with her namesake, Billie Holiday. With her, she experiences moments where the young woman can escape the role of an adult, finding peace as the oscillation between play and discomfort in her daily life briefly pauses.

Billie and her brother Nico (Nico Rockwell) alternate living between their mother (Karyn Parson) and their father (Will Patton). However, the only thing that changes with the switch is the form of violence that permeates the siblings' everyday life. When Billie meets her peer Malik (Jabari Watkins), the world reveals nuances she has never seen before: Technicolor, the reflection of light dancing on water, the sun on her skin after swimming, sparklers at night. "I’ve got my love to keep me warm."
