Kumjana Novakova uses visual archives and testimonies to create an important collective memory that is not easy to bear: during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, women were systematically captured and raped in Foča.
The unspeakable is precisely localised with shimmering video camera images and sober photographs, over anonymised voices and text overlays of survivors' testimonies before the UN tribunal in 2000, where the Foča case was the first time rape was condemned as a form of torture and sexual slavery as a crime against humanity.
