Shy New York plumber Luigi has just fallen in love with palaeontologist Daisy when she is abducted to Dinohattan, a gloomy parallel world to Manhattan where the inhabitants are descended from dinosaurs. With the help of giant reptilian goombas and degenerate thugs, the diabolical tyrant Koopa reigns supreme there and is after the stone shard that Daisy always carries with her. The shard is the missing part of a meteorite in Koopa's possession, which he could use to merge the two parallel worlds and rule the entire world. Of course, the Super Mario Bros. have to prevent this from happening. And rescue Daisy at the same time...

SUPER MARIO BROS. is the very first video game film adaptation from Hollywood with many special effects that were new at the time. Originally a flop at the cinema - probably also because the plot and mood strayed too far from the childlike character of the game - the film has become a real cult film in the three decades since it was made. Even Quentin Tarantino showed it in his cinema at the beginning of 2023 for its 30th anniversary - with overwhelming success.
